I am lucky enough to be a member of such a historic institution the Spinsters of San Francisco. Now 83 years old, Spinsters of San Francisco is a nonprofit social and philanthropic organization started as a sister organization to the Bachelors of San Francisco in 1929. A notable function in the Spinsters social calendar is Spinsters Holiday Ball which has been occurring every year since the 1950's. The event is so well known in San Francisco that the young socialite DeDe Halcyon Day, a Spinsters of San Francisco alumnae, in Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City series is meant to have met her husband Beauchamp at the Spinsters of San Francisco Holiday Ball. Lucky for my date and friend Andrés Barazza, one of my fellow University of San Diego alum Toreros, we won't be saying the same (Guess what ladies? You're in luck, he's single!) The event was help at the historic Sir Francis Drake Hotel in Union Square. My dress was a coral Tadashi Shoji gown, and my hair was done by Dry Bar on Fillmore street. To learn more about the organization read about it in my Dressed and Educated article "Yes, I wanted to be Spinster" and if you're interested in checking out Spinsters' recruiting process this spring, visit www.SFSpinsters.com. To get the ladies dresses click on the description and you'll be rerouted to wear you can purchase your own.
